ABOUT ME

I discovered photography in 2006 after purchasing my first DSLR (a Canon 350D). At the time my family and I lived in the East Midlands and being an outdoor family we spent much of our free time walking in and around the Peak District. I'd purchased the camera to document our trips and thus landscape photography became my natural genre of choice.

In 2009 I was made redundant from a job that I truly disliked and after setting up a successful online ecommerce business, we took the opportunity to move away from the hustle and bustle of the East Midlands. In 2011 we found ourselves living in South West Wales and we've never looked back.

With the Pembrokeshire Coastline a few miles to the west, the Brecon Beacons a few miles to the east and the Cambrian Mountains and Elan Valley to the north I am never short of a willing subject, although the Welsh weather usually has other plans.

Family

I was born in London but moved to South Africa with my parents at an early age. I grew up in SA, finished my schooling and served in the National Defence Force before finding work in the IT sector.

I met my wife Melissa in SA in 1998 and we got married in 2000. We have teenage son, a Jack Russell (Bailey), a cat and a horse.

Fun Fact

We saw the millennium in while camping on a palm tree lined beach in Mozambique.

Likes

A cold beer, biltong, rare steak, sunrises and rugby (Wales and South Africa in that order).

Dislikes

The cold and getting out of bed early, especially the 2-3am alarm calls for summer sunrises.

My Gear

Firstly I want to make it clear that whilst having the latest and greatest camera, lens or tripod can certainly help you get the perfect shot it will not magically make you a better photographer, just like me buying a super car wouldn't make me a F1 champion. Photography takes practice, practice and more practice and a competent photographer should be able to produce a good image with any camera.

The kit list below is what I use for my landscape photography. I am not paid to advertise these products and I have no affiliation with any of the manufacturers below. I have provided some links to the services that I use with some of them being affiliate links. If you click on any of my links and then proceed to make a purchase I will receive a small commission. It will not cost you any more by clicking any of these links.
